Dave and Janice are gracious hosts! As a city slicker, I am apt to call any naturally beautiful place “God’s Country” to the point of being cliche, but it’s absolutely true here. Beautiful Powell Lake is nestled inside the Hiawatha National Forest. During our post-Labor Day stay, it was amazingly peaceful and quiet. I can count on two hands the number of times I’ve been to the U.P., and it just never ceases to amaze me what a beautiful earthly treasure we have in our backyard.

Our stay in the cabin was pleasant and comfortable. Our family consists of my wife, me, and our three adult children. Two of them took the bunk beds and the other took the futon. My wife and I took the room with the double bed. Everyone was comfortable. Note that the room with the double bed is a bit cramped; one person will need to climb over the other person to get out of bed. That wasn’t a problem for us, but might be for others.

The water in the cabin was very good. In fact, better than our municipal tap water back home. There is no lack of hot water, either! I would just caution that the shower runs a little slow and folks with long hair might have a hard time rinsing out their hair.

The wi-fi comes from the host’s house next door, but it’s pushing the limits of the wi-fi range. Dave and Janice welcome you to use their covered porch if you need to. But, then, you didn’t come up here to stream movies or play online games, did you? (We actually had a workable connection when we turned one of our phones into a wi-fi hotspot and placed it close to the wall facing their house.)

Verizon cell coverage is very spotty in the U.P. If you use Google Maps, be sure to download a map of the U.P. in the app *before* making your trip up here. Also, trust the hosts when they say that Google Maps doesn’t give the best directions to their place when coming from the L.P. We found that if we added Isabella, Michigan as a waypoint on the route to the Schultz’s cabin, Google Maps will then take you along the route suggested by the hosts.

We look forward to a future stay at the Schultz’s Lakeside Cabin!

This cabin is perfect for a rustic, low-tech, getaway. From the living room you have a view of a lake surrounded by tall pines and just a 1 min walk down for some fishing. The Schultz’s even had kayaks and a canoe to use for free! Awesome stay. Planning to head back to the U.P. annually!
